What To Do In Carlsbad

Get on an e-bike and let’s roll!

Carlsbad, California, is a fantastic place to explore on an e-bike.

We are often asked, both by visitors and locals, to direct people to the best places to visit on an e-bike. There are so many things to do.

We’ve written about both e-bike adventures and places to go in a golf cart.

Below are some activities and routes you might enjoy on an e-bike.

1. Coastal Rides

Take advantage of the scenic Pacific coastline with a leisurely ride along Carlsbad Boulevard (Highway 101). Enjoy the ocean views, cool breezes, and numerous beach access points where you can stop and take in the scenery.

2. Visit Carlsbad Village

Explore Carlsbad Village on your e-bike. The village is filled with shops, restaurants, and art galleries. Park your e-bike and wander through the quaint streets, grab a bite to eat, or enjoy a coffee at one of the local cafés.

3. Batiquitos Lagoon Trail

Ride to Batiquitos Lagoon, a beautiful nature preserve with well-maintained trails. While the trails themselves are more suited to walking, you can ride your e-bike to the lagoon and enjoy a peaceful hike, observing the local wildlife and taking in the natural beauty.

The smokestack is gone, but the beauty of South Carlsbad State Beach hasn’t changed.

4. South Carlsbad State Beach

Pack a picnic and head to South Carlsbad State Beach. E-bikes make it easy to carry your gear, and the beach offers ample spots for a relaxing day by the water. Enjoy swimming, sunbathing, or simply lounging with a good book.

5. Calavera Nature Preserve

For a bit of adventure, head to Calavera Nature Preserve. The preserve has a network of trails suitable for mountain biking. With an e-MTB, you can tackle the challenging terrains and enjoy the scenic views, including the volcanic plug known as Mount Calavera.

6. San Diego Botanic Garden

Ride to the nearby San Diego Botanic Garden in Encinitas, just a short trip south of Carlsbad. The garden features diverse plant collections, beautiful landscapes, and peaceful walking paths. It’s a great place to relax and enjoy nature.

7. Aviara Golf Club and Resort

If you’re a golf enthusiast, ride your e-bike to Aviara Golf Club. Even if you’re not playing a round, the resort offers beautiful grounds, dining options, and spa services. Enjoy the luxurious surroundings and maybe treat yourself to a nice meal.

8. Local Farmers’ Markets

Visit one of the local farmers’ markets. The State Street Farmers’ Market in Carlsbad Village is a great spot to pick up fresh produce, artisan goods, and enjoy the lively atmosphere. They’re open on Wednesdays. On Thursday, Oceanside has a Farmer’s Market during the day, and at night there’s the Sunset Market with an emphasis on food, artisan goods, and live music. Cardiff (Encinitas) has their market on Saturdays and Leucadia (Encinitas) has their market on Sunday mornings. An e-bike makes it easy to get to these markets and carry your purchases home.

Local Farmer Markets can keep you busy almost every day of the week!

9. Wine Tasting

For a leisurely afternoon, ride to one of the local wineries or tasting rooms. Carruth Cellars and Witch Creek Winery are popular spots in Carlsbad Village where you can sample local wines and relax in a charming setting.

10. Explore the Carlsbad Coastal Rail Trail

The Coastal Rail Trail is a dedicated bike path that runs parallel to the train tracks and offers a safe and scenic route for cyclists. It’s perfect for a relaxed ride with family or friends, enjoying the coastal views and fresh air.
