(and How to Avoid Them)

Nothing beats a beautiful day on an e-bike. Whether you’re cruising the Strand, exploring Carlsbad Village, or heading out on a longer weekend adventure, a little preparation can make the difference between an unforgettable ride and an unexpected headache.

Here are five simple things to check before you head out.

1. Tire Pressure Matters More Than You Think

Low tires make your bike work harder, reduce your battery range, and increase the chance of a flat tire. It only takes a minute to check your tire pressure before a ride, and your bike will feel noticeably smoother.

2. Charge Before You Need To

Many riders wait until the battery is nearly empty before plugging it in. Lithium batteries actually prefer more frequent charging, and topping off your battery before a longer ride means one less thing to worry about while you’re out enjoying yourself.

3. Bring the Little Things

A phone, water bottle, bike lock, and a basic bike multi-tool don’t take up much space, and you’ll be glad you have them if plans change. If you’re riding farther from home, it’s also smart to carry a spare tube or flat repair kit.

4. Listen to Your Bike

Your e-bike usually tells you when it needs attention. New squeaks, clicking sounds, rubbing brakes, or shifting that’s suddenly less smooth are all signs it’s time for a quick inspection. Catching a small issue early often prevents a much bigger repair later.

5. Slow Down and Enjoy the Ride

Sometimes we get so focused on the destination that we forget why we bought an e-bike in the first place. Take the scenic route. Stop for a photo. Grab a coffee. Watch the sunset.

The best rides aren’t always the longest ones. They’re the ones you’ll remember.
