Battery Technology Revolutionized

Battery performance and security were in-focus this year. Manufacturers recognize the importance of both keeping thieves away from your battery and giving your e-bike greater range.

  • Bosch’s Battery Lock System
Bosch introduced a digital theft protection feature called Battery Lock. When activated via the eBike Flow app, the battery automatically locks upon powering the e-bike off. If a locked battery is installed into another e-bike with Bosch’s smart system, it disables the motor, rendering the e-bike unusable. This feature will be available starting this summer.
  • Segway’s Dual-Battery E-Bikes
Segway unveiled the Xyber e-bike, featuring a dual-battery configuration providing a range of up to 112 miles. A single 1,440Wh battery option offers a 56-mile range. The Xyber includes 12 levels of pedal assist and three throttle-only modes (Eco, Sport, and Race).
  • Himiway’s Long-Range Batteries
Himiway introduced the D7 Pro e-bike, equipped with a 48V 20Ah battery, delivering a range of up to 80 miles per charge. This model is designed for both urban commuting and off-road adventures.

Segway introduced two new e-bikes at the show:

  • Xyber: This moto-inspired e-bike features a rear-mounted 750W direct-drive motor, enabling acceleration from 0 to 20 mph in just 2.7 seconds. It offers 12 levels of pedal assist and three throttle-only modes—Eco, Sport, and Race. With a dual-battery configuration, the Xyber boasts an impressive 112-mile  range.
  • Xafari: Designed for versatility and comfort, the Xafari comes with a 750W motor delivering 80Nm of torque and a removable battery with a range of up to 88 miles. Its low-step frame and wide 26 x 3.0-inch all-terrain tires cater to riders seeking a smooth and adaptable riding experience.

Himiway’s Innovative Lineup

Himiway unveiled four new models, each catering to diverse rider preferences:

AIMA’s New Models

AIMA introduced eight new models and three upgraded designs, including:

  • Key West: A sleek and ergonomic e-bike tailored for city commuters, emphasizing style and practicality.
  • Venice: Developed in collaboration with Rizoma, this model combines futuristic aesthetics with functional design elements.
  • Manhattan: A folding e-bike designed for seamless urban mobility, offering convenience for riders navigating city environments.
  • Rocky: A rugged electric mountain bike (eMTB) crafted for outdoor enthusiasts seeking durability and performance on challenging trails.

 Urtopia’s Lightweight e-Bikes

Urtopia calls itself the “carbon fiber experts”. At CES this year, they introduced Titanium Zero concept e-bike. This drop-bar bike featured a 3D-printed titanium frame with carbon wheels, fork, cranks, and a titanium alloy seat post. It’s powered by what Urtopia claims is “the world’s smallest, lightest, and highest torque-density motor,” weighing less than 2.7 lbs with a max torque of 60 Nm.

The complete e-bike weighs only 23.8 pounds.

Urtopia’s Carbon Fusion GT e-bike, with both the e-bike frame and handlebars made of carbon fiber, weighs in at just 55 pounds — with two batteries.
